Conversation 2 - dialogue

  1. Mrs Davies:
Good morning Mr Armstrong. please take a seat. My name is Mrs Davies. I’m the personnel Manager.
  2. Mr Armstrong: Good morning Mrs Davies. I’m very pleased to meet you.
  3. Mrs Davies:
I hope you found us OK. I see you live in Leeds. Did you have a good journey?
  4. Mr Armstrong:
Yes, thanks. I travelled down very early this morning so I got into Bedford at 9 o’clock and had a look around the town.
  5. Mrs. Davis:
Well Mr Armstrong. I see from your application that at present you work for A B Engineering Ltd. And that you are Assistant Marketing Manager.
  6. Mr Armstrong:
That’s correct. I have worked in the marketing department since I joined the company from school in 1988. I was made Assistant Marketing Manager two years ago.
  7. Mrs Davies:
How many staff work in the marketing department?
  8. Mr Armstrong:
Twenty seven altogether including three trainees.
  9. Mrs Davies:
Why are you thinking of leaving A B Engineering Ltd?
  10. Mr Armstrong:
Well. I have been with A B for a long time. But more important is that the Marketing Manager is only five years older than I am so it will be very difficult for me to get promotion there.
  11. Mrs Davies:
I see. That’s why you applied for this position, is it?
  12. Mr Armstrong:
Yes. It was a chance to become Marketing Manager in a new company and in a new area.
