please read the dialogue in rotation with your partner.
- David Leigh: Hello, peter. It's good to see you again. How are you?
- peter Harris: Fine thanks, David.
- David Leigh: And how's the new company?
- peter Harris: Not too bad. Sales could be better, but that's true for most
companies in our area. How are things in Bristol?
- David Leigh: Much the same. Customers don't have enough money to spend,
so our sales figures are down.
- peter Harris: How's the family?
- David Leigh: Everyone is fine thanks. It's my youngest son's birthday at
the weekend so he's quite excited. What about you? Isn't it
time you were getting married?
- peter Harris: Well. I have a new girlfriend, Monica. She's very nice, so perhaps next year.
- David Leigh: That sounds interesting. You must keep me informed.
- peter Harris: OK. Nice to have seen you again. Give my regards to your wife.
- David Leigh: Thanks. Goodbye.
- peter Harris: Goodbye.

Conversation 2 - dialogue
- Mrs Davies:
Good morning Mr Armstrong. please take a seat. My name is Mrs Davies. I’m the personnel Manager.
- Mr Armstrong:
Good morning Mrs Davies. I’m very pleased to meet you.
- Mrs Davies:
I hope you found us OK. I see you live in Leeds. Did you have a good journey?
- Mr Armstrong:
Yes, thanks. I travelled down very early this morning so I got
into Bedford at 9 o’clock and had a look around the town.
- Mrs. Davis:
Well Mr Armstrong. I see from your application that at
present you work for A B Engineering Ltd. And that you are
Assistant Marketing Manager.
- Mr Armstrong:
That’s correct. I have worked in the marketing department
since I joined the company from school in 1988. I was made
Assistant Marketing Manager two years ago.
- Mrs Davies:
How many staff work in the marketing department?
- Mr Armstrong:
Twenty seven altogether including three trainees.
- Mrs Davies:
Why are you thinking of leaving A B Engineering Ltd?
- Mr Armstrong:
Well. I have been with A B for a long time. But more
important is that the Marketing Manager is only five years
older than I am so it will be very difficult for me to get
promotion there.
- Mrs Davies:
I see. That’s why you applied for this position, is it?
- Mr Armstrong:
Yes. It was a chance to become Marketing Manager in
a new company and in a new area.
